Belgaum: ‘Transport department employees have no money to pay their salaries. The proposal will be submitted to the Finance Department again,” Said Transport Minister Laxman Savadi, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister.
Speaking to media representatives here on Saturday, he said the department has over 1.30 lakh employees. They need ₹ 325 crore a month just for pay. The Covid-19 lockdown has caused much damage to the department. We were paid two months’ pay even when the lockdown was in force. Thereafter, 4 months’ salary will be increased by 25% to the relevant transport corporation. 75 per cent had been set by the government.
Since Corona is unstoppable, commuters are not expecting to get on the bus. As a result, the income that is available now is only sufficient for the diesel of buses. So we have no money to pay. Employees were therefore reported to be having trouble releasing salaries.
I’ve proposed to the Department of Finance for financial assistance. However, the proposal was rejected. The department said it is difficult to pay. Another proposal. There is hope that the problem will be resolved soon. I do a job that pays the staff. I will discuss with the chief minister.
